Being in a friendship with a creative person similar to me sparked amazing creative ideas that we could not wait to bring to Apollo. Eva Schenck and I have created an art magazine where local artists can have a platform to display their work to the community. With this magazine we have a main featured artist to whom we dedicate a few pages to. This issue featured Nicholas Ruiz; a multi media artist who is best known for his clothing that he up-cycles to make it the piece unique to him. He explains the idea of exposing rawness of individuals creativity. In addition, Suzanne Rende was featured for her quirky paintings usually include wildlife and unique patterns that catch the attention of the viewer. In contrast to the featured artists, we included articles on current events in todays generation and how those events and societal changes affect the art world.
When studying my old poetry, I began to ponder the question of how I could express the themes within them using different mediums. I had never dabbled in the world of film, yet I decided that communicating my ideas through short films would be an interesting approach to this project. I dug into the research by studying films that had inspired me and used elements of those films to make my end product substantial. I studied filmmakers and poets such as Josh Ovalle, Connor Franta, and Daniel Lissing. Taking my revised poetry, i set out in nature to capture short, 1 minute silent films that used various cinematographic skills to impact my viewers through visuals.
Mental health is a growing topic in our society today. While our society is working to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, some struggle to fully understand what its like to struggle with mental illness. Those who have mental illness struggle with this misunderstanding of it but artists around the world have taken it upon themselves to try and convey their struggles through art. My goal through this project was to illustrate different feelings through physical forms of expression. I planned to create a gallery booklet with descriptions of the meanings within each piece.
Over the past few years, our generation has become more conscious of the effect that we have on the environment. One thing that struck the minds of our generation was the statement put out by scientists stating that by 2035, we will reach the point of no return for climate change. This means that we will no longer be able to reverse the damage we have done to our one and only home. We as a generation have taken it upon ourselves to make changes to the way we live by reducing our plastic use, reducing waste, conserving energy, etc. These changes are slowly improving our environment, however, one of the biggest polluters is still Mass Production and Fast Fashion. Our Goal with this process is to create fashionable items in the most environmentally friendly way that we possibly can. Allison Twigg and I studied up-cycling: the process of taking old items, fixing them, and adding to them to make a brand new product.
