Environmentalism in Fashion
Over the past few years, our generation has become more conscious of the effect that we have on the environment. One thing that struck the minds of our generation was the statement put out by scientists stating that by 2035, we will reach the point of no return for climate change. This means that we will no longer be able to reverse the damage we have done to our one and only home. We as a generation have taken it upon ourselves to make changes to the way we live by reducing our plastic use, reducing waste, conserving energy, etc. These changes are slowly improving our environment, however, one of the biggest polluters is still Mass Production and Fast Fashion. Our Goal with this process is to create fashionable items in the most environmentally friendly way that we possibly can. Allison Twigg and I studied up-cycling: the process of taking old items, fixing them, and adding to them to make a brand new product.

We created a variety of products throughout this process including clay pins, pendants, patches, earrings, and clothing. We made the clay pins using Apoxie clay. We then sanded them down and painted them with a variety of designs. We then sprayed the pins with Matte Fixative to ensure that they will be durable. For the last step we attached pin backs. We used the same process in making the pendants and earrings. I had made two patches during our project as well. I started off which old cloth that had been cut from a t-shirt, sketched out my design, and then tightened it within the embroidery hoop. I used string that I bought from a thrift store to be repurposed, and sewed in the design. I then wrapped around the edges with the string as well. Lastly, I attached the adhesive to the patch so that it can be ironed onto any bag or item of clothing. When we concluded our art section of the project, we photographed all of our products to sell.

Mission Statement
Scientists say that by the year 2035, we will reach the point of no return with climate change. As far as any human could remember, we have been polluting the earth with toxic fumes, chemicals, and waste. In years past, it was the use of coal in factories but mass production and improper waste disposal has become a big contributor to this problem as well. The act of recycling old materials to create new fashionable clothing and accessories would encourage environmentally friendly fashion.
Our mission with this shop is to repurpose materials in order to create fashionable items in the most environmentally friendly way possible. The Fashion Industry is the second most harmful industry responsible for destroying our environment. From water pollution to toxic chemicals in the air, the fashion industry is to blame for numerous environmental issues around the world. The only way to make a change is to stand up and fight back, which is exactly what are company stands for. Our vision for the future is to be flourishing and thriving in our healthy environment. However, at the rate in which we are dropping, we will not be able to see this vision through. That is why our goal is to create products that are environmentally friendly. We do this by up-cycling clothes from thrift shops, making handmade items from materials we already have, and using eco-friendly materials. We want to make a change in the world, we will contribute that change towards the Rainforest Alliance. An organization that devotes their time and effort towards improving and bettering our environment!
